Long before and long after she became notorious as a pop culture shero, Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a force in the fight for women’s equality and civil rights. Her steady, strategic work over decades made it possible – among countless other achievements – for women like me to open a bank account in my own name and apply for credit for my own business without a male co-signer.
Her demeanor and stature showed us that you never have to be the loudest voice in the room to be heard, or the most riled up to fight for what you believe in. She has long inspired me, and I created this portrait of her the week she passed as a way to remember that her work is not finished. That one raised eyebrow says it all. As Ruth said about her own struggles, “I wasn’t just going to sit in a corner and cry.” Neither are we.
A portion of the proceeds from these RBG prints will be donated to the ACLU.
