Acrylic and newspaper confetti on canvas
Officially licensed by KU, this is a large panorama of the one and only Allen Fieldhouse. In ad
dition to my signature palette knife painting style, look for the newspaper confetti laying partly under the paint on the building. I visited the Spencer Research Library on KU’s campus to pull the original University Daily Kansan newspaper from March 1, 1955  – the day Allen Fieldhouse was dedicated. In honor of the confetti tradition during games, I photographed this newspaper and carefully reproduced it on newsprint, then tore it into confetti and layered it under the paint. There are many Easter eggs in this one! Watch the video below for a closer look at the newspaper details. And look for: Dr Naismith hiding in one of the windows, the date March 1, 1955, the “Daily Kansan” masthead, as well as pieces of the diagram of the building.

The Fieldhouse

Officially licensed by KU, this is Megh's depiction of Allen Fieldhouse, the home of Jayhawk basketball. Like the Jayhawks, the original painting incorporated some unorthodox material: newspaper. Megh wanted to pay homage to the uniquely KU tradition of throwing newspaper confetti during home games at the Fieldhouse, so she went to the source. At the Spencer Research library on campus, she pulled the original University Daily Kansan newspaper from March 1, 1955 -- the day Allen Fieldhouse was dedicated -- and carefully reproduced it. That replica was then torn into confetti and incorporated right into the original painting. Read the full story of this painting here.
